Course Description

The 8-hour infection control course is essential for dental professionals to help maintain a safe environment for dental workers and patients. This course highlights the key principles of infectious diseases and how to prevent them in the dental office. It is important to identify the numerous infectious sites in the dental office and what needs to be done to help keep a safe and healthy environment for both the dental personnel and the patients. After completion of this course, students will be proficient in identifying pathogenic microorganism sites, the infection control protocol, and the best practices to provide a safe environment for all.

Course Objectives

1. To be able to demonstrate effective infection control in the workplace
2. To be able to protect patients from exposure to infectious diseases
3. To become knowledgeable on infectious diseases and the modes of disease transmissions
4. To understand your level of exposure to infectious material
5. To be able to identify the different microorganisms that relate to infection control
6. To effectively use universal and standard precautions to limit the risk of infections
7. Understand what the Hepatitis B virus is and why you should vaccinate
8. Understand how to Utilize proper personal protective equipment to limit infections/ injuries
9. Understand how to Utilize proper equipment for barrier protection
10. To be able to identify what legal and ethical sterilization techniques are
11. To be able to properly disinfect materials in the workplace
12. To be able to demonstrate how to properly discard sharps and Bio-Hazardous materials
13. To be able to locate all of the possible high infectious sites in the workplace
